As a franchise, Persona is an emotionally significant game for so many. What does this character mean to you? More than why do you want to write as them, but why are they special to you?
Persona 3 was the first Persona game I have played myself. It really introduced and captured me into the world of Persona, especially since this game seemed to have quite the darker themes which I do enjoy. I chose to audition for Mitsuru because I enjoy her character development. I feel like she always kept her friends / the other SEES at a certain distance, to not let them too close emotionally, if only due to the guilt she feels because of her family’s involvement. Especially when she and Yukari finally mend their broken friendship really inspires – it shows that telling the truth to a friend, while it might be painful at first, only leads to better things if you give it time.
If there was something you could change about your character in-game, what would it be and why?
Honestly, the cliché of her having an uncaring fiancée with the purpose of an arranged marriage – her intending to do so if it helps Kirijo Group, but realizing she doesn’t want it any longer after gaining feelings for Minato. She’s an independent woman, who eventually learns to trust on her friends, and doesn’t need a fiancée to gain more power. Perhaps she might’ve done so at first, but only realizing throughout the story that she’d be able to make it grand without ruining her life by marrying someone who wouldn’t care about her.
--------------
That dreadful tower tall standing amidst the school, as the clock had chimed midnight not too long ago. And thus, the Dark Hour had begun. Something they all were so familiar with, yet something had changed between the S.E.E.S. Or better said ; between Yukari and Mitsuru.
Truth had been spilled : Kirijio Group was responsible for creating both Tartarus and the Dark Hour, and Yukari’s father was part of it– something Yukari didn’t seem to be able to forgive her for. And Mitsuru understood – but, there was no time. There was never time to worry about mere petty things like that when Shadows were crawling through Tartarus’ halls and floors, when the next full moon drew closer and they had to become stronger.
As usual, the group had left for Tartarus. And everything seemed to go as ordinary – were it not for a strangely powerful foe that had appeared out of nowhere, soon engaging them. They had no choice but to fight back with a lot of effort – a powerful, howling wind soon breaking the group apart, sending them flying in different directions.
Mitsuru’s eyes slowly fluttered open, room swirling as she sat up too quickly. An eye closed as she struggled to get onto her feet again – head feeling as if it was ready to explode. Did she hit her head that hard? More importantly, were the others alright?
Once vision was normal once more, she began to make her way throughout the floor. Attempting to contact Fuuka, to let their situation be known and to ask if she could tell the position of the others, she was only greeted with silence. It seems that she was on her own to figure things out.
Most important was to find the stairs to the next floor and hopefully find the others. Then again, she was certain they, too, would make their way outside again. But – they were quite fond and caring about their partners, they might still be around. Or worse, what if they were badly injured, or still unconscious?
Whether it was fate jesting with them and testing their limits, the Empress stumbled upon Yukari soon enough. Luckily, she was alright – a relieved sigh escaping her lips. Though Yukari showed a single second of relief – it soon disappeared as she seemed . . troubled? Angered? Perhaps she wasn’t the right person to find the girl, though that shouldn’t matter at the moment.
”Yukari, calm do---”
”No! How – how could you hide the truth from me? You thought I couldn’t handle it?!”
Seems like Yukari was more upset about their personal matter than the situation at the moment. Regardless, that matter shouldn’t be settled here – their lives were at stake, just like their companions. But perhaps, saying something to soothe her somehow would bring Yukari to reason once more.
”I just didn’t want to hurt you – avoid the complications it would bring.”
”You mean the fact that I’m angered about the truth being hidden from me? Sorry, was I supposed to be grateful about it? Happy?”
Silence. Mitsuru knew she was right. She had every right to be the way she was, but not when it would endanger them. A sigh before she composed herself once again, arms crossing over her chest while looking sternly over at Yukari.
”No. But now is not the time to let your feelings get the upper hand. Not in this situation. Especially not when we’re split apart and more vulnerable than ever.”
It seemed that Yukari understood the current situation once she put her feelings aside, giving a light nod instead. With that, the two of them began to run – Mitsuru's eyes looking around as they did, trying to spot any indication of their fellow members. It was then they came to a halt.
Tap. Tap. Tap.
Chains rattled across the entire floor – a most terrible sign. They had heard it before - seen it, yet barely managed to escape it. ”RUN!” Had Fuuka yelled at them in a panicked state when it first happened – only explaining once in safety once more, that his readings were dangerously strong – a foe they most certainly wouldn’t be able to defeat. Not now, not when they weren’t at their strongest. The best advice was to never linger too long on one floor, especially when it was devoid of any other Shadows.
Yet it seemed they had stayed here too long, and now it came for them. Oh, how she hoped that Yukari and her were the only ones that remained on this floor. The two of them turned around, dashing in the opposite way were the sound of chains came from. Certainly, that must’ve been the correct way to avoid the being – though, the stairs might’ve been in that direction.
Regardless, the two ran – Yukari was ahead of her. Watching her turn a corner, Mitsuru took a quick glance over her shoulder. It was nowhere in sight, yet the terrifying sound of chains kept chiming through the halls. He was still there.
It was only when she turned a corner that she came to abrupt halt. There, Yukari laid on the floor – terribly wounded as blood stained the tiles. And in between the two? There he stood.
The Reaper was ready to claim two new souls, but Mitsuru wasn’t planning to go down without giving it her all in this battle of life and death.
